How to take care of your Jewellery

How to take care of your Jewellery

January is always a good time to have a refresh, sort out and a little clean up following the New Year activities and your jewellery collection should be no exception.

With our jewellery collections making such a huge impact on your outfits we thought it was only right to give a little advice on our top tips on looking after your Little by Little jewellery.

Our aim is to create beautiful, ethically- produced, timeless collections that call you to collect and treasure for years and years.

We know you all lead busy lives and adding something else to your list of things to do is probably not something you want to hear, but dust, pollution and daily wear all conspire to cloud the brilliance and dull the surface of precious metals. As with all fine things in life, you should take care to protect your jewellery.

Here are our top tips for keeping pieces looking beautiful forever...

1. Store Jewellery Separately

Firstly store your jewellery collection with care. Try and store each item separately. It’s so easy to get necklaces tangled in earrings or fastenings (we know we’ve been there!).

It also makes sure that scratches don’t occur. If you don’t have a box with separate compartments then try to keep it wrapped up separately in soft cloths, or even better we would recommend to keep in store in sealed containers that are air tight. This also helps to keep it away from dust and any other damage. Definitely keep away from direct sunlight, damp, and extremes of heat or cold. This really helps to maintain the gorgeous shine on all our unique pieces.

2. Wear with Care

Wear your sparkle with care! Jewellery should always be the last thing you put on after getting dressed, the 'Pièce de Résistance' of an outfit! This not only prevents your jewellery from catching on clothes but stops any makeup or moisturiser or perfume coming into contact with it.

Always try to remove jewellery before showering or bathing. It’s so easy to forget this one, but sometimes chemicals in shower gels or oils can tarnish jewellery so be super careful.

3. Gentle Cleaning

Gently clean your jewellery occasionally to remove any oils, dust or contamination. Take care and use simple, non-abrasive materials like soap and water, with a soft toothbrush or a soft polish cloth, gold for gold plated items and a silver polish cloth for your silver pieces. The old fashioned silver dip-dye cleaners really aren’t needed. And be careful not to rub or to over-handle your jewellery.

Always dry jewellery well after cleaning with water.

RE-VAMP RE-WEAR RE-USE

In a bid to make our jewellery zero waste, Little by Little offers our customers the chance to repair any damages or breakages. Even with the most careful care, we understand that accidents sometimes happen. We work closely with a London studio (who can fix just about anything) and we will oversee the repair. If the item is purchased less than 12 months ago, please get in contact with us. We will be able to give you an estimate of the costs involved and you simply let us know if want to go ahead.

If you aren't doing so already, come and check us out on Instagram and join our Little by Little Jewellery community!
